Released in 1993 exclusively for the PC Engine, Chapter of Griffon is an adventure game based on the popular Patlabor manga/anime series. The player takes control of Ingram pilot Noa Izumi, using a menu system to move her between available locations, talk to people, and look around. A good amount of dialogue is voiced, and this voice work is done by the original anime voice cast. To add some life to the still images Riverhill Soft created the Active Window System - certain scenes have an additional smaller window overlay showing a short animation. While adventure games of this type are quite linear Patlabor offers some degree of freedom in that Noa may freely move around and talk to people even if interaction with that scene or character doesn't advance the plot.
As well as charting the epic struggle of Ingram vs Griffon, the disc also contains an impressive wealth of extras. There's a Labor-themed Janken (AKA rock, paper, scissors) game, interviews with the cast, information on key members of Headgear (the creators of Patlabor), a short radio drama, Labor technical specs (voiced by cast members), an animation viewer and a selection of adverts for the game.
